Sunday, January 19 - Monday, February 3, 2014, we took a 15 day Princess Cruise from San Francisco to Hawaii and back on the Grand Princess. The itinerary had us making five stops, at Oahu, Maui, Kauai, Hilo, Hawaii an a short stop on the way back in Ensenada, Mexico. We had a great trip with fairly decent weather. January is a good month to avoid summer heat.
Elaine (Bill's sister) & husband Jim Williams and Diane & Bill George took this trip on the 2600+ passenger ship. Two highlights were the Lahaina Banyan Court Park in Maui and a tour of Waimea Canyon.
We have been to Maui several times and the Banyan trees are very comforting. A short walk from where the ship's tender docks, there is always something interesting going on. There is a 2/3 acre single banyan tree that has grown to cover the entire area. Some reinforcement was needed. The shave ice we consumed was a real treat.
We traveled to the Waimea Canyon Observarion point off Highway 550, which took over an hour by bus from the port. Waimea Canyon State Park occupies 1,866 acres and makes one think of the Grand Canyon.

Excited to board Princess Cruise Lines, Grand Princess for a visit to the Hawaiin Islands with Diane, my sister Elaine and her husband Jim. We departed Sunday, January 19 after a short shuttle ride from Castro Valley.
