Our Voyage

Diane and I took a 29 day South Pacific Cruise from Los Angeles (San Pedro) and back on Princess Cruise Line's, Crown Princess. Originally a 28 day cruise, a medical emergency caused us to add a stop at Nuku Hiva of the Isle d' Marques to drop a "medical emergency" off. Altogether, we sailed through 3 regions, Hawaii, Samoa and French Polynesia, leaving Los Angeles on October 18, 2014 and returning November 16, 2017.

In the Hawaiian region we visited Hilo (Hawaii), Honolulu (Oahu), Nawiliwili (Kauai) and Lahaina (Maui).

In the Samoan region, we stopped at Apea, Samoa (the independent nation of Samoa), crossed the international dateline, then stopped at Pago Pago, American Samoa (unincorporated territory of the United States).

in French Polynesia, we stopped at Moorea, Bora Bora and Papaeete, Tahiti, then the unscheduled stop at Nuku Hiva. We weren't allowed off the ship at Nuku Hiva, but took several photos of beautiful scenery.

The entire voyage covered 12,461 Statute miles (10,828 Nautical miles) in 29 days, from Los Angeles and back.

Bill did manage to play a *lot* of duplicate bridge, while at sea, some 35 sessions altogether, mostly with Englishman Clive. We played the English ACOL system with weak notrumps and 4 card majors.

An exciting baseball 2014 World Series took place during the cruise from Oct 21 through Oct. 29. It went the full 7 games and the Giants beat Kansas City 4 games to 3. Madison Baumgardner pitched five innings of shutout baseball in relief in the 7th game after two days of rest, winning the Most Valuable Player award.
